The town of Riva del Garda is set in the north shore of Lake Garda and, with its 16.874 inhabitants, is the most important center of the region Trentino-Lake Garda. It is part of a whole that makes the locality enchanting: it borders westwards with the Monte Rocchetta and eastwards, the Monte Brione (2218 m) protects it. The so-called "Pearl of Lake Garda" is a Mediterranean oasis at the feet of the Dolomites, with a mild climate and a vegetation made of lemon trees, palms, olive trees and laurels. The white gravel beaches, the light blue water and the fresh breeze give the town a particular charm.
With its harbours, Riva del Garda is an important centre and is mainly beloved because of windsurfing and sail boating. A growing fashion in the last years is mountain biking on Lake Garda: thanks to the annual Bike Festival and to the numerous tour offers around Riva del Garda, the town is an ideal meeting point for bikers. Important historical monuments are the square "Piazza III Novembre" with the palaces "Palazzo Pretorio", "Palazzo del Comune", "Torre Apponale" and, last but not least, the fortress "La Rocca" surrounded by the canals and seat of the City Museum, the picturesque antique churches and the "Bastione", built at the feet of the Monte Rocchetta.
Interesting trip destinations in the surroundings of Riva del Garda are Lake Ledro, Lake Tenno, the Varone Falls (100 m high) and the small locality of Pregasina, which offers a spectacular view on Lake Garda. In Riva del Garda, the weekly market takes place every second and fourth Wednesday of the month.
