Lazise is set on the east shore of Lake Garda, in the south of Bardolino and in the north of Castelnuovo del Garda. The city is 24 km far from Verona, at the feet of the morainic hills. Here the river reaches its maximum width with 17 km from coast to coast. The name Lazise comes from the Latin word "laceses", which means city on the lake. Observing the six towers of the „Castello Scaligero" and its walls, you can easily recognise the medieval origin of the city. Lazise has a wonderful old town centre, with narrow alleys and picturesque squares, a harbour set right in the city centre and the 14th century Veronese customs office.
In Lazise there are many important villas: "Villa Pergolana" (the most famous), "Villa Bernini", set on the lakeshore and surrounded by antique towers, "Villa Bottona", built in medieval style, "Villa Baratta", with its nice park, "Villa Bazzoli" and "Villa dei Cedri", in Colà. Much known is the small town of Colà, with its marvellous Garda Thermal Park. This hosts two large thermal lakes, both perfectly equipped. The park is definitely worth visiting.
During the whole year, Lazise organises a program rich with events, among which numerous concerts, the Christmas market with local delicacies, the celebration of San Martino and many more representation and shows. The weekly market takes place every Wednesday. Lazise is one of the most important touristic centres on Lake Garda, thanks to its natural beauties, the numerous restaurants and stores, the different sport offers (on water or in the inland) and the nearness of the famous fun parks of Gardaland and Canevaworld.
