Gargnano is situated on the western shore of Lake Garda in the middle of the “Parco Alto Garda Bresciano”. It has 3.279 inhabitants and is the largest but also the most sparsely populated municipality of Lake Garda in the province of Brescia.
Gargnano is composed of several villages: Bogliaco, Villa and the main village Gargnano, situated on the shore of the lake, the districts Zuino, Fornico and Villavetro, which are situated at the hillsides of Monte Gargnano, Liano, Formaga, Navazzo, Sasso and Museaga at the plateau of “Monte Gargnano”, the mountain village Costa and the furthest away district Muslone.
Furthermore the small lake „Lago di Valvestino“ which is imbedded between the mountains of „Valle di Valvestino“ belongs to the municipality of Gargnano. The landscape is quite diverse with the lake, the plain, the hills and mountains and offers wonderful contrasts to visitors.
Some magnificent villas, palaces with beautiful gardens which can tell of a wealthy past, are located in the main village of the municipality.
The spectacular “Centomiglia” a hundred-miles-regatta of sailing boats is attracting a big audience every year and starts in September in “Boglico”.
The British writer David H. Lawrence has been one of the famous visitors of this region. |
