Peschiera is located at the low shore of the Veronese Lake Garda, 25 km west from Verona. It is the most western city of the region Veneto, situated at the foot of the moraine hills, where the waters flow into the emissary “Minico”. The city is completely surrounded by canals and the historical centre is enclosed by walls, which have modified the natural routes of the river.
The cities origin and development refers to its geographical location. The remains of some lake-dwellings and multiple archeological findings dating back to the Bronze Age (arrow points, swords) testify the importance of the area as a centre of trading in prehistorical times. Peschiera is located at the “Via Gallica”, a street dating back to the roman period which connects Brescia with Verona.
A long bicycle track (40 km) starts in the town and leads through the “Mincio Park” along the river “Mincio” until Mantua.
The Lake of Frassino is the largest lake in the moraine hills and is a protected area because of its diversity of animals and plants. The Lake has been added to the list of sites of Community interest (pSCI) and special area of Conservation (SAC) by the European Union.
Tourism is the most important economic resource. The theme parks close to Peschiera attract many tourists. |
