The municipality Toscolano-Maderno has 7.759 inhabitants and is located in the province of Brescia at the western shore of Lake Garde in the middle of the “Riviera dei Limoni”. The village is 40 km far from the main city of Brescia and belongs to the regional park “Alto Garda Bresciano”.
Toscolano-Maderno settles on a vast headland between the harbour of Focolano and the bay of Maderno at the foot of “Monte Pizzocolo (1582 m) and “Monte Castello di Gaìno (866 m) which provides a breathtaking view over the lake and the beautiful surroundings.
The typical Mediterranean climate offers mild temperatures throughout the whole year.
Toscolano and Maderno have been merged to one municipality in 1928. The villages have two different town centres, divided by the “Toscolano” torrent. While Toscolano is known for its paper industry and letterpress printing, Maderno’s economy is mainly supported on tourism, thanks to the fabulous landscape. Furthermore the production of excellent wines and oils as well as the cultivation of citrus fruits (in particular lemons) is important.
There are many interesting sights in Toscolano-Maderno just like the church “San Pietro e Paolo” in Toscolano, the pilgrimage church “Madonna del Benaco”, the “Palazzo Nuovo” in Maderno and the “Valle delle Cartiere”.
The surrounding hills provide numerous possibilities for hiking, trekking and mountain biking. |
