The city Riva del Garda is located in the north. With its 15.808 inhabitants it is the most important center of the region Trentino-Lake Garda and belongs to the most fascinating towns in the surroundings. It adjoins the mountain Rocchetta (1575 m) in the west and is protected by the mountain Baldo (2218 m) in the east.
The so called “pearl of Lake Garda” is a Mediterranean oasis situated at the foot of the Dolomites, with a mild climate and a rich vegetation of lemon trees, palms, olive trees and laurels. The town owes its special charm to the white shingle beaches, the clear blue water and the fresh air.
Riva del Garda is an important water sports centre with its two ports and is especially popular for windsurfing and sailing.
The most important economic resource is tourism, which has emerged in the late 19th century.
Worth seeing is the historical monument „Piazza III November“ with the „Palazzo Pretorio“, the „Palazzo del Comune“ and the „Torre Apponale”, as well as the „Rocca“, a fortress surrounded by a canal which locates the municipal museum and the “Bastione”, which has been built at the side of the Monte Rocchetta.
Interesting excursion destinations in the surrounding area of Riva are the Lake Ledro, the lake Tenno, the „Cascate del Varone“ and the small village „Pregasina“, which offers a spectacular view over the lake Garda.
